Environmental Protection Agency Letter to Newsom’s Car Ban
This letter was sent by EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler to Governor Newsom regarding his executive order (EO) banning the sale of internal combustion engine (ICE) passenger vehicles in 2035. Wheeler cites specific examples of California’s failures in the energy sector, including a wastewater treatment plant leaking into the Oakland Estuary and an emissions waiver request in order to maintain power throughout the state.
Clearly, California cannot meet current power needs and will not be able to meet the required energy production if the state were to switch to electric vehicles en masse. Wheeler goes further to criticize Governor Newsom picking winners and losers in a potentially illegal executive order.
“A Lasting Tribute to Carl Boyett,” by Susan L. Rich for Stanislaus Magazine, Dec 2017
The following is an excerpt from Stanislaus Magazine article:
As the sun filtered through the branches of the trees and a squirrel performed its gymnastics through the branches, Carl’s Campfire Circle was officially dedicated on Oct. 30. The ceremony highlighted the philanthropy of Carl Boyett and provided a selling for future sixth graders attending Foothill Horizons Outdoor Education to understand the generosity and dedication of this man.
Carl’s Campfire Circle is an amphitheater. This gathering place has long been the heart of the Foothill Horizons program for youth. Students begin and end their outdoor education time at the amphitheater. They start by learning the norms for behavior and conclude with a celebration of their stay. Through the years however, these benches and dirt walkways have been damaged by time and weather. When Carl died unexpectedly in 2016, his family and friends sought an opportunity to create an appropriate memorial. With the renovated amphitheater, a facilities need intersected with personal interest and everyone benefitted.

Make Dreams Real: Values, Vision, Volunteerism, by Melece Casey for Stanislaus Magazine
Excerpt below from the article:
What began as a charity golf tournament run by the Modesto Sunrise Rotary Club has blossomed into a lasting legacy dedicated to serving school-aged children in Stanislaus County. The late Carl Boyett, a Rotary Past President and CEO or Boyett Petroleum, launched the Make Dreams Real Golf Tournament in 1989. In 2009, along with his wife, Carole, and the Boyett family, he established the Make Dreams Real Endowment Fund.
“It’s funny because when he started trying to build a million-dollar endowment, it wasn’t on our radar,” says his son and the company’s President, Dale Boyett. “It took a long time to build a sustainable, functionable, charitable foundation. We’re still working on it.” In 2009, the Make Dreams Real fundraiser was revamped to become a grant-making endowment managed by the Stanislaus Community Foundation.

Boyett Petroleum Raises $275,000 for their Make Dreams Real Endowment Fund at Golf Tournament
BOYETT PETROLEUM’S MAKE DREAMS REAL ENDOWMENT FUND ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISES $275,000 TO HELP FUND LOCAL CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
July 7, 2017 Modesto, California
Boyett Petroleum’s Make Dreams Real Endowment Fund hosted its annual golf tournament on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Del Rio and Oakdale Golf and Country Clubs. MDR welcomed 306 golfers to this year’s tournament, the most golfers the tournament has had. The tournament was sold out this year.
Cruisers, the Boyett convenience store brand, brought in over $6,000.00 for the fund during the annual “Send a Kid to Camp” campaign which ran during the month of May at local Cruisers locations. Customers made donations at the pumps or inside the stores.
A hearty thank you is extended to everyone involved with this year’s tournament. Along with numerous generous donors, petroleum industry partners Williams Tank Lines (based in Stockton, CA) and Valero Energy Corporation were major sponsors of the tournament. Boyett Petroleum underwrites all costs associated with the tournament, and 100% of monies received are directly deposited to the fund. The annual golf tournament is the single fundraising event responsible for building the MDR Endowment Fund. A portion of the fund is distributed annually to local children’s educational programs through a grant process overseen by an advisory board. The fund is administered by and held at the Stanislaus Community Foundation in Modesto, CA. Since the fund’s inception in 2009, over $720,000 in grant funding has been awarded to local children’s programs and organizations, including Foothill Horizons Outdoor Education, Modesto Symphony Carnegie Youth Program, Society for Disabilities and Juline Foundation. The focus of MDR is to enhance the lives of children in Stanislaus County by providing stimulating enrichment opportunities that may not be otherwise available.
The 2018 Make Dreams Real Annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Del Rio and Oakdale Golf and Country Clubs. Registration will open online on October 1, 2017. Those interested in golfing, sponsoring, making a donation or purchasing items to benefit MDR are encouraged to visit our website at www.makedreamsreal.org.
The Make Dreams Real Endowment Fund’s grant application period runs February 1-April 15th annually. Applications can be downloaded, at that time, from the Stanislaus Community Fund’s website at: www.stanislauscf.org/receive/current-grant-cycles.
Questions regarding the tournament or grant process can be directed to Michelle Gill at mgill@boyett.net.
